Zero Hour

Barbara Campbell, Amanda Stewart, Stevie Wishart
1996

zero hour was a live audio performance by Barbara Campbell with quest artists Amanda Stewart and Stevie Wishart. It was

"a contemporary reconstruction of a 1944 broadcast of the same name. The original program was produced by Radio Tokyo and intended as a propaganda program for Allied troops in the Pacific. This audience heard popular music and the voice of a female announcer named Iva Toguri, an American citizen and one of several women dubbed Tokyo Rose by the troops.

Audiences at the Domain Theatre will be asked to imagine themselves as expectant listeners in the Pacific Ocean. The persona of Tokyo Rose will again be diffused by multiple female voices mediated by a range of audio technologies and historical filters.

zero hour [was] Barbara Campladll's third performance for The Art Gallery of NSW. In 1989 she performed Carmen (privately) with Sherre DeLys in the 19th Century wing and in 1993 she premiered Backwash for Australian Perspecta 1993." 1

Presnted by Sydney Intermedia Network as part of Matinaze 96 at he Art Gallery of NSW.
